Event Affiliate Program

An event affiliate program is a distribution model where event hosts recruit individuals or organizations (called affiliates, promoters, or community partners) to promote their event in exchange for a commission on the ticket sales they drive. Each affiliate receives a unique trackable smart link, often paired with a per-affiliate promo code, and the platform attributes every sale that flows through their link or code to them. Post-event, commission is calculated against the host-defined rate (often per ticket tier) and paid out — increasingly via automated Stripe Connect transfers rather than manual reconciliation.

How it works

A typical event affiliate program runs through five stages. (1) Setup: the host defines commission rates per ticket tier (e.g., 10% on GA, 5% on VIP), invites affiliates by email, and the affiliates onboard their payout method (typically a Stripe Connect account). (2) Equipment: each affiliate receives a unique trackable smart link, an auto-applying promo code, and (on AI-native platforms) ready-to-post captions tailored per platform (Instagram, X, TikTok, LinkedIn). (3) Promotion: affiliates share through their own channels — newsletter, social, DMs, in-person flyers with QR codes. (4) Attribution: the platform captures source per ticket at redirect time and persists it on the ticket record. (5) Payout: post-event, after a hold window (typically 7 days), the platform calculates commission per affiliate against actual captured sales and triggers Stripe Connect transfers. The most differentiated platforms also ship privacy-walled distribution — affiliates drive bookings without seeing the host's attendee contact list.

Where it applies

Affiliate programs fit any ticketed event with multiple distribution channels and an audience that overlaps with other audiences. Heaviest historical use: live music (promoters, street teams, label affiliates), nightlife, festivals, and concerts — the canonical "promoter economy" the affiliate model was originally built for. Modern usage extends to recurring tech meetups (community newsletters as partners), founder events (operator communities as partners), wellness retreats (adjacent teachers as partners), and conferences (industry publications as partners). The common thread: the host's reach alone won't fill the room; partner reach extends it.

Platforms that ship this

SocialLoop

Native event affiliate program with per-tier commissions, automated Stripe Connect payouts (7-day hold, $10 minimum), AI-generated platform-tailored captions per affiliate, source attribution, and privacy-walled distribution.

Eventbrite

Basic affiliate-link tracking; does not natively support per-tier commission rates, automated Stripe Connect payouts, or AI-generated promoter content.

PartnerStack, Rewardful, Tapfiliate

General-purpose affiliate platforms. Strong tracking; often integrated with event ticketing via custom webhooks rather than natively.

DICE

Owns the buyer relationship in live music. Limited host-side affiliate tooling at parity with the use cases above.

Common questions

How is commission typically calculated?

On the effective price (after any discount applied), capped at the ticket's face value. Commission rates often vary by tier — higher on lower-margin GA, lower on higher-margin VIP. Platforms differ on whether commission is calculated pre- or post-platform-fee.

How does an affiliate get paid?

On the most automated platforms, via Stripe Connect transfer after the event closes and a hold window passes (typically 7 days, with a minimum threshold like $10). Less automated platforms reconcile manually with Venmo, ACH, or bank transfer.

Can the same person be an affiliate for multiple events?

Yes — that is the typical pattern. Each affiliate has one onboarded Stripe Connect account; they can be invited to as many events as the hosts want, with different commission rates per event.

How is this different from influencer marketing?

Influencer marketing typically pays a flat fee for posts regardless of conversion. Affiliate programs pay per sale. The two can coexist — a host might pay an influencer a flat fee plus commission on attributed sales — but the structures are distinct.
